Thomas Nelson at the University of California, San Diego, and his collaborators are developing a new machine for detecting breast cancer, called the Volume Breast Ultrasound (VBUS). It has several advantages over mammography, including the ability to detect smaller lumps without the use of radiation or breast compression.
